The gifts people keep are the ones with a name or a piece of the island: a hoodie with a Madeira flower, a t-shirt with a name, a portrait of the family pet. Order early — especially if the gift has to travel.
In Madeira, Christmas is simply «a Festa»
It starts with the Missas do Parto, dawn masses held on the nine days before Christmas, carries on through the Noite do Mercado on 23 December, when the streets around Funchal's market fill up late into the night, and ends at the table with carne de vinha d'alhos and bolo de mel, the island's dark honey cake. It's a family celebration — and one that people far from the island miss. That's why the best gifts from here carry a little bit of Madeira.
8 embroidered gift ideas
1. A hoodie with a Madeira flower
Bird of paradise, Pride of Madeira, hibiscus or anthurium, embroidered on the chest. For cool winter days and for anyone who lives away from the island. See designs and prices.

2. A t-shirt with a name (or initials)
The recipient's name in one of our catalogue fonts, on the chest or the sleeve. Simple, personal — and it stands up to washing.

The word MADEIRA embroidered across the back in leaves and flowers, between two windows with traditional figures. For family and friends who live far away.
4. A portrait of the family pet
From a photo, the family dog or cat embroidered on a t-shirt, hoodie, tote bag or patch. The kind of gift people keep. Pet portraits.

5. Towels or a bathrobe with a name

When to order
We embroider in 2–3 working days once you approve the mock-up. Then add postage:
- Pick-up in Funchal: no postage wait.
- Portugal: usually 2–5 working days.
- Rest of Europe: usually 5–10 working days.
December fills up fast. For gifts that need to travel, we recommend ordering by early December; for pick-up in Funchal, by mid-December. We always confirm the timing before we start.
Getting the personalisation right
- Check the spelling of the name — and any accents.
- Pick a thread colour that contrasts with the garment: light thread on dark fabric and vice versa.
- Short names on the chest, phrases on the back. Very small letters lose definition in embroidery.
- Look at the mock-up before you approve — that's what it's for.
